Looking at the Pole Speed we see that the speeds are up. At Five Flags the quick time by Matt Craig was the fastest time since Derek Thorn’s pole speed in the spring of 2022. At Mobile, the speed was the fastest in eight years at the track, back when Stephen Nasse was on top of the charts in the spring of 2017.
After five races in the 2025 season, we have seen five different drivers win the Engine Builder Fast Time Award. Matt Craig was on top of the charts at Five Flags and Spencer Davis won his first Southern Super Series Fast Time Award at Mobile. The streak is now six races dating back to the end of the 2024 season. The record is 14 from 2022 to 2024.
Cole Butcher has not won all the races, but he’s been the halfway leader in the first four events. He failed to lead halfway at Mobile, but he did lead the race. Butcher led early in the race and has paced the field for at least one lap each race this season.
While Cole Butcher led from flag to flag at Five Flags, the racing up front at Mobile was exciting as a total of six different drivers led over the six lead changes. It was the most lead changes in a 100-lap race since the race at Mobile last spring.
Cole Butcher captured the $1,000 Gulf Coast Graphix Bonus for having the best average finish over the two nights. Butcher won on Friday at Five Flags and rallied to second at Mobile on Saturday to win the honor. Butcher has posted four podium finishes this season, along with two wins. He is the point leader early on this season.
With the victory on Saturday at Mobile, Bubba Pollard picked up his 40th career win in the ASA Southern Super Series. Pollard has won one race every single year, dating back to the first season of the series in 2013.
Top rookie Gavan Boschele managed a pair of seventh-place finishes over the Pensacola/Mobile Doubleheader. He has now finished all five races in the top 10 this season. He will look to keep the streak alive at Nashville.
Gathering information and notes makes a race car faster and with this past weekend, Stephen Nasse did just that. A pair of quiet fifth-place finishes can only mean things are trending up for Nasse who now has an average finish of 5.4 on the season. Nasse is a plus 59 for the season from the starting position to the finishing position.
Colby Howard Posted a pair of top-10 finishes with a best finish being a fourth on Saturday at Mobile. Howard was 10th the night before to run his total to four top 10s on the season.
The series' next race will be the North South Shootout on Saturday, May 3rd at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway (TN). The 100-lap race will be co-sanctioned with the ASA CRA Super Series based out of the Midwest. For more information visit www.SouthernSuperSeries.com
