Three different drivers have set fast time this season in the first three ASA Southern Super Series events. This is nothing new for the series which saw 10 different faces set fast time in 2023. Also Cole Butcher’s win marks three races and three different faces in victory lane for 2025. There have been five different winners in the last five ASA Southern Super Series races.
After leading a race-high 127 laps Cole Butcher has now led his last four ASA STARS National Tour events he’s run and the last five Blizzard Series races at Five Flags. He surpassed 1000 laps led on the National Tour with this event. He’s also held the lead in the last five Southern Super Series events.
For Cole Butcher this marks his second win in the Blizzard Series at Five Flags Speedway. It’s his fourth overall ASA Southern Super Series win and it’s his sixth ASA STARS National Tour victory in his three years of competition.
Bubba Pollard had a hard-fought day after an ignition problem left him ninth in the final rundown. Pollard passed 30 cars on the track for position, if not more to claim his final finishing spot. The all-time Southern Super Series and Blizzard winner will look to rebound at Five Flags Speedway in a few weeks.
If someone needed a strong finish it was Matt Craig who raced inside the top five all day before finishing third. Craig was caught up in a wreck at SpeedFest and finished 17th at New Smyrna in the season's first two races. The good news for Craig is the next race will be at Five Flags in a few weeks.
Stephen Nasse loves to pass race cars and on Sunday it was no different when he came from 21st to post a fourth-place finish. Nasse has been seventh or better in seven of his last nine Super Late Model races at Five Flags. Nasse is also still seeking a Blizzard Series title which he just missed a year ago.
Defending Snowball Derby winner Kaden Honeycutt came back to the scene of the crime and ran the Blizzard Series event on Sunday afternoon which kinda had the same feel as a Snowball Derby. In the end Honeycutt could only muster up an eighth-place finish on the half-mile track.
For the third straight race, Gavan Boschele is the top rookie. The Clyde Hart Memorial 200 winner will look to keep the streak going when the Southern Super Series returns for the Pensacola-Mobile double coming up on April 11th and 12th.
In his last 15 Southern Super Series starts Jake Garcia has posted 13 top 10’s and he’s been fourth or better in his last three attempts. Garica, a former series champion, is always in the mix when he unloads and he could be a contender for the Snowball Derby come December.
Colby Howard is proving that he could be a serious contender for the ASA Southern Super Series title after his second top-five run in three races. Howard posted a fifth to go along with his fourth-place run at SpeedFest in January. With strong contenders like Butcher, Boschele, Nasse, Craig, and Pollard it’s going to be a dogfight all season long.
Next up for the ASA Southern Super Series is the Gulf Coast Doubleheader on April 11th and April 12th at Five Flags Speedway and Mobile International Speedway.
