Unpacking Nashville SLM Challenge

Finally, after a season of near misses, Nashville is the answer for Casey Roderick and his Anthony Campi Racing team.  The ASA Southern Super Series points leader needed a good venue to get the monkey off his back and Nashville was it.  Roderick now has three wins in the North/South Super Late Model Challenge.

Speaking of the top three…. We mentioned a few weeks ago when Bubba Pollard, Casey Roderick, and Stephen Nasse finished 1-2-3 at Five Flags Speedway it was the second time this season they had done that.  After Nashville, it happened for a third time in nine races.  Before the 2024 season, these three had never swept the podium and now they have done it three times this year alone.

The Southern Super Series has now had eight different fast-time award winners in nine races this season after Gio Ruggiero topped the speed charts in qualifying.

Stephen Nasse will be the first to tell you that he hates to lose, but the number of second-place runs he’s racked up in 2024 has been impressive.  So far he’s been second four times in nine races.  Nasse was second five times in 2017 and could equal that record with another runner-up finish.

Dylan Fetcho backs up his top 10 run at Five Flags with a fifth-place run at Nashville.  The three-time Pro Late Model track champion shows he can mix it up with the big boys in the Super Late Models.

A semi-off night for Matt Craig found him chasing the car home to an eighth-place finish at Nashville.  This ended a three-race streak of top-five finishes, but he has still posted top-10 runs in 74% of his starts in the ASA Southern Super Series.

Dustin Smith posted a ninth-place run on the lead lap at Nashville to mark two straight races in the top 10 at Nashville.  Overall Smith has four top 10 runs in eight starts.

The limited schedule is not slowing the advances of Dawson Sutton who has posted three top-five runs in his last three starts with the ASA Southern Super Series.  Sutton has five overall top-10 runs this season.

Also logging his fifth top 10 of the season was Jake Finch who recovered from engine trouble at Five Flags last time out.  The points could become very important as only the top 10 guys can earn the provisional for the 57th annual Snowball Derby.

The ASA STARS National Tour heads to Anderson, IN for the Redbud 400 this weekend, while the ASA Southern Super Series has just a few weeks off before they head to Georgia for the Georgia Summer Nationals at Cordele Motor Speedway.  This will be the penultimate race for the 2024 points season.
